Hardware Headache

The Verizon technician was at my house again today for another 4+ hours. He replaced more wires. He said it was fixed. Again. We’ll see.

He was gone for just 30 minutes when my connection went back down and I had to reboot the modem and wireless router. That’s right, just 30 minutes. Verizon keeps saying the problem is in my wires but that doesn’t explain why several of my neighbors have the very same problem.

I just keep hoping that Comcast comes to this neighborhood soon. If it wasn’t for the DSL, I wouldn’t even have regular land lines. My cell phone would be more than good enough.

You might want to call their customer support and speak to a manager. When we mentioned that we were going to switch to cable, suddenly the phone company dropped all of our telecom charges by $30/month.

I’ve been bumped up the ladder and still no resolution. I’m sick of Verizon.

OMG, I had the same problem.

To be honest, I think that Verizon truly sucks. I had the verizon 3MB down and 768 Up for 24.99 for over a year. I never saw it reach 3mbps in the 1 and a half years I’ve used it. I thought it must be just me, but soon I realized that the speed kept getting sloppier by the day. Apparently, there’s nothing Verizon can do about it (even though it is their horrible speed.) So I finally switched to RCN and I’m loving it. Pretty much 5mbps for most of the day, except for an hour during night time (around 9ish). And it only cost me 29.99. 5 dollars more for twice the speed. I think it’s worth it. Plus they have no annual contract either.

I say switch from Verizon, because their internet truly sucks.

My mom is getting internet (finally) this week. Not Verizon. I’ve already advised her to go cable.

I have found that repairers will always try and blame something or someone else to get out of fixing the problems themselves. The level of incompetency is astounding, we had someone come to fix our boiler, the first guy comes in takes out the pump, puts in a new pump and wires it in incorrectly, second guy comes identifies that something is wrong but does not have the pump, and finally a third guy comes who actually is competent and fixes the problem.

Also I tried to subscribe to your blog at:

and it gave me an error:(

Customer service is at an all time low across the board.

Not sure what’s wrong with the feed, though. I’ll try to look at it this weekend and fix it. Thanks for the heads up.

you don’t want comcast tho… it sucks really bad… especially the tv cable…. it freezes once a day…. also, they suck with service…. a few months back the buisness across the street’s dumpster service managed to yank out our cable and phone lines…. it took 13 hours for them to finally show up and then they tried charging us to fix it…..

Interesting. I’ve heard good things about Comcast in this area. Must be a regional thing.

Which router were you using? I’ve been looking to set up a home network, and I’m looking for a cheap, reliable router.

Hey dude, i can totally relate to that. I have a linksys router. Worked fine for a good few months. Then suddenly kept going off after around 2 hours. This was really annoying me, especially as recently it goes off after around 40 minutes.

I bounced the dodgy router off the wall which caused the casing fall apart. I was able to see the cip board which was totally undamaged. I plugged it all back together and it still worked !! lol..

Anyways 40 minutes later the router lost connection again… (i was really annoyed at this point)

I unplugged it and was amazed at how hot the plug was. I was quite alarmed to be honest.

Any ways my next step was to try cooling the modem, router and plugs. I placed an 8inch fan blowing cool air at high speed over all the above mentioned hardware.

BOBS YER UNCLE. 2 days with no problems touch wood!!!!

If i had the receipt i would take it back but unfortunately i dont, so in the mean time i will cope with cooling the hardware.
