Farfel!
This is a desperate plea for finding my favorite childhood toy. Even my husband, who is close to my age, doesn’t remember Farfel. Do you?
Farfel was a floppy-eared dog that was part of the Nestle Quick campaign in the 50s and 60s. Okay, I only remember the 60s but I think he was around before that. He appeard in Quick commercials with Jimmy Nelson.
I have a little bendable Farfel dog on a shelf in my office but what I really want is a stuffed Farfel dog. I had one when I was a kid but my mom {gasp} threw him away when I was a teenager. I didn’t know she’d thrown it out and I probably wouldn’t have cared anyway. But I do now. Luckily, she did save my Farfel mug. But still. I want my Farfel stuffed dog.
If anyone happens to find one on ebay or in their travels throughout the internet, please let me know. I have a spot waiting for it, right next to my Chatty Cathy doll.

Hi! I had to email you and let you know my recent experience. My husband brought home the most Adorable Daschund puppy for Christmas. It only took me a little while to come up with a name! FARFEL! But the funny thing is, I didn’t know how I came up with it. Somewhere in the recess of my mind (the part I haven’t lost yet! lol) was a fuzzy image that it was a puppet name! Now I was born in’63 so I had to be pretty young to have registered that commercial! I was asking EVERYONE older thatn me if they recognized that name??? No one had! SO I goggled it and found my answer! I too just ordered the bendy Farfel (from Ebay) and I will be looking for other Farfel stuff! Just wanted to share!

I’m so glad I could help you out with that Liz! I remember Farfel very clearly, as does my sister who remembers virtually nothing before the age of say, 10 or so. Farfel was just a big part of our lives because we always drank Nestles Quik and we each had a Farfel mug and stuffed dog. Oh, how I wish I could find one, now!
You can read more about Jimmy Nelson and Farfel here.
And here’s one of the commercials:

(I’d embed it here but there’s a commercial at the beginning of it and I didn’t want that on my blog.)
