that's actually really cool. If I had a house and a lot of money I'd build in some secret exits and stuff, too!

I've inspected several homes over the years that have hidden passageways. Most recently, a modern ocean-front home on the North Shore. I realized there was some "missing space" and began investigating (termites can find missing space more easily than we mere humans, so I really needed to find it.) I finally found an almost-invisble seam the the wall panel in a hallway. When I pushed on it, it popped open to reveal a staircase. The missing space at first-floor level was only about four feet by four feet, so I had been expecting ductwork or utilities. The stairs led to a hidden loft, beautifully finished and chock-full of toys. The homeowner had built it for his grandchildren. He was surprised that I had found it. :D

Hidden passageways eh? Maybe that is why I like Harry Potter so much. I definitely prefer the old-English Gothic look. But I do like the "openness" of modern layouts.
