Consumer Rip-off!

One of my sons had to file his taxes this year for the very first time. He didn’t make much money, in fact it was low enough that he got all of his money back that he paid this year. He also has a daughter that he could claim so he was eligible for the Earned Income Credit. So, we called H&R Block to ask for a price for doing this very simple tax return.

They told us it would be between $150 -$250!!! When I questioned the cost, I was told it was due to the complexity of the forms that needed to be filed for the EIC as well as the calculations. Yeah, right. And I have “Idiot” stamped on my forehead, too.

That’s when I hung up on the guy and logged on to one of the online tax filing sites. I started the process at 11:37 and finished at 12:04, including the online digital signage at the end so the rebate could go directly to the bank. Another few minutes to print the return and we were done.

I’m still shocked that H&R Block was going to charge so much to do such a simple return. Nothing like taking advantage of the unknowing. This kind of consumer abuse is just another reason why we need to obliterate our current tax code and start over. New tax code rule: Tax code cannot be over 10 pages long. I’ll vote for any candidate that commits to that.

That is terrible. What would our grown kids do without us moms!
