I’m one of those odd people who love to take tests. All through school I did well on tests, quizzes and exams. Even when I didn’t pay attention in high school or spent more time skipping class than attending, I managed to pass my classes by whizzing through tests. Did I know the material or did I simply do a good job at guessing? I’d like to believe that I was just intelligent beyond anyone’s realization but the truth is, much of my success was a matter of being able to guess the right answer most of the time.
Naturally, when I found a site that rewards participants for guessing correctly, my heart skipped a beat. I’ve been clicking around at GuessNow and honestly, I’m so giddy that I’m having to really slow down and focus. This site is addicting! And fun!
Okay, here’s how it works. Just sign up, invite your friends and find questions that you’d like to answer. Take a guess at the right answer and wait to see if you’ve guessed right or not. You can earn points for your own right guesses, for your friends’ right guesses or for submitting your own questions. The current topics are sports, politics, entertainment and finance so there’s a topic for everyone!
Signing up is free and playing is free, too. It’s more than just a game, though. There’s an informative blog and a active discussion forum for getting to know all the other Guessers. This is an entire community filled with fun, not to mention there’s a cash pool awarded every month. Wow!
After you’ve signed up and played a little, let me know how you like it. If you get points for guessing correctly, stop back here and tell me that, too. Anyone up for a little friendly competition?
Have you ever been required to give out too much information at a site just to use the free service being offered? And did you think how nice it would be to have a list of fake information to use for just such a situation? Yeah, me too.
And that’s why I love the Fake Name Generator. All you need do is choose your gender, the country for your name and Go! You’ll get a name as well as an address, phone number, email address, mother’s maiden name and date of birth. What more could you need?
I’ve clicked over and over to get different names and I’ve never seen a repeat yet. So yeah, it’s kind of fun to play with, too. Just keep the site handy for the next time you don’t want to give your real info to one of those nosy sites. Oh, and keep a record of the names you use. I’d like to know if anyone else gets repeats since I never have.
It doesn’t take much to amuse children or dogs.
I’ve come to the conclusion that spending a lot of money on toys, either for kids or furkids, is a waste. Nothing beats a cardboard box from a new computer or other large item, for hide and seek, playng house, or a hundred other games. From tennis and golf balls to pots and pans and tupperware, my granddaughter and my dog can take almost any household item and turn it into hours of fun.
I think that’s an idea for a new website!
I was in high school when Star Wars first came out. Yes, I’m that old. It was the most amazing movie I’d ever seen. I loved it. In fact, I loved it so much that I watched it about a dozen times. I even saw it once by myself because I couldn’t find anyone else to see it yet again.
I’m not really a fanatic, though. I don’t have any Star Wars toys or lunchboxes or anything. There are loads of others who are truly devoted to the series. The webmaster of Star Wars Asciimation, for instance, would fall into that category. Truly, this site is a labor of love.
From what I can tell, this site is updated semi-regularly. By that I mean once a year or so. It was started in 1997 and the last update was April, 2006. I suppose that could be the end of it or we could be treated to a new episode soon. Stay tuned!
This site isn’t the most elegant. I could think of a hundred and one ways to design it better. But when you’ve got all these great photos you can just put them out there and wait for others to find them. I did, after all. And now that you’ve found them, go ahead and find your favorites.
I know some of you will love the aircraft malfunctions and others will be fascinated by the fires and construction accidents. Me? I like the signs. I’m always amazed that no one is proof reading signs that are out in public. Or newspaper headlines. But that could be good, too, because that’s what gives me a little chuckle when I take a break from all the serious stuff online.
Which pictures do you enjoy the most?
Time to share another of my favorite “for laughs” websites. Like most of my best humor picks, it’s all about finding entertainment in real life. Because real life is truly stranger than fiction.
I love New York. It’s been years since I’ve been there but it left quite an impact on me. And yes, the people there are quite interesting. I don’t mean just the nativie New Yorkers but everyone who finds their way their.
And what better way to spend some free time than eavesdropping on the everyday people of New York City? Overheard In New York does just that. People all over the city keep their ears at attention, listening for the entertaining, absurd or just plain hilarious. They submit these gems to the site for our enjoyment.
Even if you can’t visit New York City you can still enjoy that special “something” that the city offers. You can still spend time wth the colorful and interesting people who make New York such a great place to visit.
I know a lot of gamers. In fact, I live with several. We’ve been through 3 PS2s and I’m asked daily about getting the new PS3. My kids each have their own computers, too, so they can load the games they want. Since getting our high speed internet service, the kids have been playing online. I confess, I never really understood the attraction.
Oh, I admit I’ve played video games. I loved the old Atari; I was really good at Pitfall! And back in the day, when I worked as a bartender, I was pretty good at Ms. PacMan, too. Just don’t tell my kids that.
Now I’ve found an online casual gaming site, Cafe.com, that both my kids and I are enjoying. I’ve already signed up for a free account and started playing some of the games. My youngest son saw me playing and wouldn’t stop asking questions until I gave him the URL to check out for himself. Of course, his older brother then had to sign up for an account, too. And the boys’ friend Josh after that.
I think part of the appeal, besides the free membership, is the clean look of the site, the ease of signup and the variety of games. I really like the 3D avatar app while the kids love the gold coin economy.
Since this is a multiplayer platform, I’m going to practice as much as I can before I challenge the kids to a match. I’m determined to prove to them that mamma is not to be messed with. Afterall, I may not get any time on the PS2 but this old broad started gaming with Pong back before any of them were even imagined. That has to count for something, right?

We all get spam. No, we don’t want it but we do get it. We filter it, stop it at the server, blast it away. And still it gets through. So we zap it.
Every once in a while though, a spam will catch our eye. Sometimes it’s because it’s really well disguised but other times it’s simply because it’s so damn funny. Sometimes, it just makes us shake our head in amused amazement.
And that’s where CrazySpam comes in. This is the place to submit your spam, whether it’s odd, funny, or just plain unbelievable. Or just stop by and read about other people’s spam.
Sometimes you have to laugh at those things that annoy you. It helps to make life a bit more bearable.
Do you like Mad Magazine? How many have you seen? How about all of them?
That’s right. Doug Gilford has every single Mad Magazine cover online. You can look at each cover or you can look at thumbnails of entire years. Or, if you’re really into it, look at all the thumbnails on one page.
This collection starts with the Oct-Nov, 1952 issue and continues right up to this very month. Even if you’re not a Mad fan, you’ve got to be impressed with Doug’s massive collection and the time it took to put them all online. Nice job, Doug!
Huh? Yes, you read that right. I know it’s confusing, but so are most eggcorns. And just what is an eggcorn? Well, I guess you could say it’s a very creative, albeit incorrect, way of hearing and repeating a common word or phrase. As you may have guessed, “eggcorn” had been used in place of “acorn” which led to the term.
The Eggcorn Database is filled with the most wonderful, entertaining word blunders online. The database is searchable and you can even add your own eggcorns via the Contribute thread at the forum. Just do a quick search for your eggcorn and if it isn’t listed, register at the forum and contribute. Here are my contributions, still waiting to be added to the DB:
Snow squirrel instead of snow squall. As far as I know, this is still be used because I don’t think anyone ever told him it was incorrect.
Move One’s Valves instead of move one’s bowels. Same guy that gave us the snow squirrel.
Out of Content instead of out of context. My former boss used this one so often I finally told him it was wrong but he kept using it anyway. And he used it in the wrong context, too! I wish I’d written down all his eggcorns. Every time he tried to sound intellegent, he laid an eggcorn.
If you enjoyed those then you’ll want to browse through the Eggcorn Database. There are over 500 of these gems listed.
Enjoy!
